Presidential Fitness Program

Each spring, students in fifth and sixth grades participate in various physical events that can make them eligible for awards.

For more information visit: http://www.fitness.gov/

Project Citizen

A national competition involving students in the American political process: determining a local problem or need, collecting data on the problem, evaluating possible courses of action, narrowing the focus to a single course of action, and appearing before one or more political bodies to sell the plan.

Students compete statewide for the right to compete nationally during the summer.  For more information visit: http://www.civiced.org/project_citizen.html

Pub Club

The PTA-sponsored Pub Club is an after-school club for 4th, 5th and 6th graders interested in writing and putting together a student newspaper and literary magazine. We are looking for a coordinator for this club. If you are interested, please contact Parshaw Vaziri at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The previous coordinators will be happy to train you.

The Pub Club writes and prints The Willett Times. When students join the club, they are expected to attend regularly, to be prepared to work on writing news articles and columns, and be ready to learn how do a layout. They work on planning pieces of writing, illustrating and writing from rough draft through final copy. Students take turns working in the various departments: school and local news, international and national news, human interest stories, sports and weather. All students have the opportunity to produce comics and word games.

The Pub Club website is: http://www2.dcn.org/orgs/willettpubclub

Science Fair / Family Science Night

Sixth graders complete their four-month long science fair projects and display them in the multi-purpose room for families to see and admire.

This event occurs on the evening of Willett's Open House Night in April.

Willett Field Day

Third through sixth graders spend the morning on the playground and field areas participating in events such as the baseball toss, basketball obstacle course, the long jump, arena tag, and the water balloon toss.

Kindergarten through third graders travel in their regular class from one event to another whereas 4th-6th graders are split into mixed grade level groups with one teacher as a leader. Parents help to run each of the 14 stations.

Also part of the Willett Field Day are the relay races and tug-of-war competitions that occur between the 4th, 5th and 6th grade classes. These events usually take place on the next day in the afternoon. This event is usually held in June on the last Friday and the last Monday of the school year.

Contact Volunteer Coordiantor Heather MacKenzie ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) if you can help with this event.
