Movement
1st grade yoga classes
2nd and 3rd grade hip-hop dance classes (“Dance with Tina”)
Playground Equipment, P.E. Equipment, and Kids in Motion
The PTA provides funds for playground equipment, P.E. equipment (balls, jump ropes, hula hoops, bean bags, etc.), and sponsors a P.E. program called “Kids in Motion.” Willett is always looking for volunteers to help with our P.E. program. Volunteering for P.E. is fun, easy, and flexible! Email president@willettpta.org for more information.
Paraeducators and Special Program Teachers
Our PTA contributes funds to support the hiring of paraeducators, reading specialists, and ELL supports. These educators provide essential assistance within our classrooms for all our teachers and students.
Willett Community Book Club
Book Club is for 4th - 6th graders and their adult. We meet once a month, typically on the fourth Tuesday at 6:45 pm in the Willett Library (or on Zoom). Meeting dates and book selections are communicated via a group email. Many of the book selections contain content appropriate for junior high school age children so the program assumes that both adult and child will read the book. Permission slips are available in the Willett office or in the Library. Please contact Chris Fluetsch for more information.
Willett Library
We love our Willett Library and our dedicated library staff! Our PTA supports our school library by contributing funds throughout the year to purchase new books to keep the Willett collection current and expansive. Our library funds are also used to supply sets of books to classrooms for class reading projects.
Outdoor Education
We provide funds for our long-running 6th grade outdoor education program at Sly Park. This is a week-long experience provided to all 6th grade students each spring.
Classroom Budgets & Fund-a-Need
We directly support our talented teachers with classroom budgets for supplies and student experiences. We also provide funds for specific needs on a classroom or grade-level basis, such as field trip funding or additional classroom supplies.
Active4.Me Bike or Walk to School Program
The Active4.me scanning system can instantly notify a caregiver by text, email, or phone that their student arrived on campus. The system generates real-time statistics including CO2, calories, miles, and gas savings for each student, grade, or for the whole district. Scan days can be any interval, from once a month to every day. Find out more and volunteer! To register: https://www.active4.me/Registration/willett
Teacher & Staff Appreciation Events
We celebrate our wonderful Willett teachers and staff with luncheons at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year. We also coordinate Conference Week snacks for our teachers and Staff Appreciation Week gifts and treats. If you are interested in serving on the Hospitality Committee please email president@willettpta.org.
Room Parents
We support one room parent from each classroom to help communicate PTA information to classroom families and to help during teacher appreciation events. Serving as a room parent is a wonderful way for busy parents to feel involved in their child’s classroom. Please contact willettroomparent@gmail.com if you’d like more information!
Assemblies
Funding for “A Touch of Understanding” for all 4th grade students. For more information, please visit https://touchofunderstanding.org/.
1st Grade Bat presentation from NorCal Bats (https://norcalbats.org/bats-in-the-classroom/)
Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run (https://www.girlsontherun.org/) is an after school program for 3rd-5th graders in the Spring. Girls participate in a fun, supportive program while training for a regional 5K Fun Run with other participating GOTR schools.
PTA Events
Coffee with the Principal
Principal Campbell and the New Families Ambassador coordinate a monthly gathering where families can connect and learn about the latest happenings at Willett. We meet the first Friday of each month at 8:30am (right after drop-off) in the Willett MPR. Coffee is provided! Please email newfamilies@willettpta.org with questions.
Willett Community Get Togethers
Periodic, casual get-togethers for the entire Willett community!
The Willett PTA coordinates two book fairs during the Fall and Spring conference weeks. These events raise money for our wonderful school library. Volunteers can help with set-up, take-down, and as cashiers. Volunteering is fun, easy, and a great way to help out during the short days of conference week. We also look forward to celebrating a family reading night in conjunction with the Book Fair!
The PTA hosted its first Community Lunar New Year Celebration in January 2023. Parents, teachers, students, and community members worked collaboratively to produce a vibrant celebration of the new year. We hope to see this event return this year!
This Willett fundraiser typically takes place in the Spring during the school day. Students gather pledges and then run as many laps as they can with their grade. All funds go to supporting programs and events at Willett! Volunteers help with planning, set-up, clean-up, treat distribution, and counting laps.
The PTA hopes to host a Community Picnic to celebrate our year together.
Parent Education
The PTA contributes funds to support the Davis Parent University (www.davisparentuniversity.com) and a volunteer from the Willett community serves as a liaison to the DPU board.
Movie Nights
The Willett PTA has its own blow up movie screen and hosts family movie nights as a way for the Willett community to connect and get to know each other.
Field Day
The Willett PTA supports the K-6 teachers in organizing a day of fun outdoor activities including obstacle courses, ball games, and water balloon tosses (with the principal!). Volunteer opportunities before and during this event are a fun way to spend a few hours!
6th Grade Grad Celebration
We celebrate our 6th grade graduates each year with a day of games, treats, and music. We always need help with planning and execution of this event, please contact president@willettpta.org for more information.
